Toward the end of July, beginning of August my folks were in town for a couple weeks. Along with Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Lisa as well! We had a lot of fun going on hikes to Cecret Lake, eating out, and I even got every one to hike the Y with me!
Two weeks later I drove down to meet them again with Aunt Lisa in Kingman, AZ. Sunday morning bright and early we headed out to start Havasupai Falls hike!
With the threat of flash floods hanging over our heads we started into the canyon anyways. It was 9 miles from the top into the Supai village and to the Lodge where we were staying. (my dad got rooms so my mom would have a bed. haha)
There was only a mile and half down and then you follow the wash with very little incline the rest of the way. There were two random village dogs that walked along with us and we only stopped once for snacks.
When we got in it was sprinkling a little more and we were very displeased to learn that their cafeteria was closed along with one of the shops.. so we had like no food.
So we got some dinner of diet coke and powdered donuts and walked another 5 miles round trip to Havasu Falls even though it was sprinkling.
Here's a picture of us at the top before we headed in!
Pointing down the hill :]
We are almost to the bottom of the first canyon. The wash would take us a little deeper into a second canyon you can kind of see in the back ground.
At the bottom of the hill with 6.5 miles to go!
Almost there!
Havasu Falls were incredible! The water was a beautiful turqoise and felt so great after all that walking! We swam at the base of the waterfall for a while enjoying the success of our trip thus far!
It was a little cold at first...
A picture of upper and lower Navajo falls. I wish we were able to explore these a bit more but we wanted to swim!
We only had a few hours before dinner that we ordered from a local delivery service (very expensive) so we didn't get to go see Mooney falls! :[ One day!
Monday morning we woke up to pouring rain and the power out. Also none of the stores were open so we had 6 peanut butter crackers 6 fruit roll ups and some jerky to our name.. We hiked out at that point. I was sad not to get to explore more but what can you do. It also got very hot half way through out hike out and of course we all ran out of water... It was very tough on Lauri as we feared but we made it!
We ended up staying at a nice Holiday Inn that night with a hot tub and just hanging out the rest of the trip.
More to come...
