The same weekend as my birthday we took a trip with our friends Kyler and Megan to Mesa Verde National Park in southern Colorado. We left on my birthday. Friday, and didn't get to the campsite till well after midnight. We slept pretty dang well that first night. Saturday morning we woke up and went to the visitor center to buy our tour tickets. On our way to our first stop, we saw a bunch of cliff dwellings and wondered each time how on earth the natives got to them. This is one of them.

Our first tour was through Balcony House, and it was probably our favorite tour! We got to climb ladders, walk through a few rooms, crawl through tunnels, and literally walk where the ancients walked. It was way cool!

Here's a picture of me, climbing a massive 32 foot, not so ancient ladder to enter Balcony House.
One we got up the ladder, we got to walk through a few rooms, in this picture we're walking behind a room to get to the main plaza.

Here's a picture of our tour guide from New Mexico, who refused to make any claims, talked in circles, meaning I didn't really learn anythings and was quite bored. He did have some funny moments though.

This is one case where we literally walked where they walked. This boulder was there and the natives had carved foot holds in it, so we got to climb up it.
Here's a picture of Tyler looking through an ancient window? You might think so, but in all actuality, it's a door.

Almost a full view of Balcony House on the cliff.
Originally there was only one entrance and one exit to Balcony House, and this is it.
We crawled through a really decent tunnel and up the cliff! Fun!

Tyler climbing up one of 3 ladders. This cliff face was crazy! So hard to imagine the natives coming down without ladders or steps!
And lastly here's me climbing up the same ladder as we leave Balcony House.

Now onto Cliff Palace!
