This past saturday I hiked Mt timp with my friend Makay and his roomates for one of their birthdays. We started just before 4 in anticipation of watching the sunset from the saddle. It was pretty humid starting off so we got eaten by mosquitos!
I love the Timponoke trail. Easily one of my favorite hikes with all of its little creeks and waterfalls. It's so diverse and beautiful! :]
Oh and let's not forget about the wild flower meadows! They're even more stunning in august but seriously they were beautiful this time as well!
Unfortunately a storm started rolling in big time while we were still on the mountain.... So we got lots of lightning, thunder, hail, and rain. Which was almost more adventure like. I loved hearing the thunder shake the valley. Such a cool feeling, even if I was pretty terrified of getting struck by lightning. haha
All I wanted to do was sit at the top cause we pushed it so much to get up there. Well I got to sit for 5 minutes before the hail pelted us at like a 90 degree angle and we were bookin it down. haha No sunset for us.
We did manage to get one picture before we moved it down. There were still lots of glaciers and ice up there so it was quite chilly. Quite the experience! haha
This was actually taken on the way up before the storm really set in. I love taking pictures in these meadows with the summit right behind us! Always such a fun picture!
So the biggest adventure had yet to even begin.... It had stormed on us for a couple hours and had just started letting up. We thought for sure we'd be off the mountain by 9:30 and not even need our flashlights.
So there we were booking it down the hill when we came across the biggest danger yet....
A full sized bull moose right on the trail! We just about ran smack into him. He was just there blocking the trail on one of the most dense and steep parts of the trail. We waited like 15 minutes before another group decided to go mess with him (not really sure what their plan was) The rest of us were slowly moving back up the trail when someone yelled "GET OFF THE TRAIL!" and like that we were running back up looking for any break in the wall to our right. 2 people jumped off to the left (way to steep) the rest of us booked it up the wall on the right. I don't think i've ever moved so fast. haha needless to say our hearts were racing. Turns out the moose had started charging someone up the trail to where we were although he never ran by. I guess he finally moved a little further down the trail. Regardless we decided to avoid all parts of the trail to the left so we started sliding down the mountain on the right till we got to another part of the trail. I was sooo wet and muddy after that but man was it an adventure!
Note to future hikers: watch out for moose on the trail! haha
